Yes, I stopped the oil cleansing. I started oil cleansing in June and it was going good for about 4 months. I hadn't used any store-bought products on my face. The problem started after I started using a new castor oil.
My skin went crazy and it was already too late when I realized it was the oil. I bought this castor oil from a attar shop. I guess the quality was terrible or it had other vegetable oils mixed in. Whatever the case, my skin went craazzzy. I had breakouts all over my cheeks, I never get any breakouts on my cheek so that was a red signal.
After I realized that the oil was breaking me out I stopped using it. I didn't use any oil or face wash for a week. I didn't wear any makeup in that week, so at the end of the day I would just splash water on my face.
My skin calmed down but I didn't go back to oil cleansing. I was not feeling it. Washing a hundred wash cloths is a task. And, more importantly, getting your hands on good quality oils is difficult here in Saudi Arabia. So, I'm just over it.
My advice to you if you're interested in trying oil cleansing is that, do it only if you have access to good quality oils.
And, please be extra careful about washing your face towels or cloths properly because if you don't they will breed really harmful bacteria which will enter your pores when you put it on your face causing you to get terrible infections.
I'm really disappointed it turned out like this. It was really working but after I changed the castor oil it went downhill. Khair, now my skincare is a bare minimal and I still use sunflower oil as my moisturizer. Sunflower oil is really good to moisturize with because it is non-comedogenic. It will not clog your pores. Sunflower oil has also brightened my skin tone. So, I'm still using that to moisturize.
I'm writing a new bare minimal skincare post which has really helped my skin stabilize. :) Stay tuned! xx
