Apple Cider Vinegar Toner Infused With Orange & Lemon Peels For Brighter Skin

I'm back with another DIY for you girls. I'm really excited about this little project because as you all know I love apple cider vinegar for my skin. If you haven't read my previous post on ACV, Click here.

The water in Saudi Arabia is hard water. On top of that, all our face washes and soaps are also alkaline. And, so it disturbs the PH of our skin. And, that is were ACV is so helpful. Because, ACV is so acidic it balances out the PH of our skin. I have already written about how ACV has helped my skin. Please, read that post.

I decided to spice up my ACV toner. I chose oranges and lemons because they have citric acid which helps brighten/lighten the skin, it also helps with acne and scarring, lightens dark spots, eliminates blackheads and hyper-pigmentation hence improving uneven skin tone. Plus many many more benefits.

Infusion is a very simple but kind off a long process. So, let's get started.

You'll need:

  • 2 lemon peels and 2 orange peels
  • a glass jar
  • apple cider vinegar

  1. Take a clean glass jar and put in your lemon and orange peels. Make sure your peels are properly washed and cleaned before peeling. I'm using this cheese jar because I didn't have anything else. But, you can use a fancy pretty looking glass jar. No plastic jars because the plastic leaks into the vinegar.
  2. Now, fill the jar with apple cider vinegar making sure that the peels are completely covered. Close the jar tightly.
Store the jar in a cool and dry place. You can store it in the fridge if you want. I store it in my room on a cupboard since my room stays cool. Now, the hardest part is you've to let it sit for a week or for a stronger infusion two weeks. Shake the bottle everyday.

After the two weeks are up, strain the apple cider vinegar and throw the peels. Put your orange and lemon infused ACV in a glass jar and store in the fridge. It will stay good for more than 6 months.

How to use it?
Now, according to your skin you can use this ACV diluted or for stronger effect you can use it directly. But, it's better to dilute it.

Take a small bottle, add in half of water and add half of infused ACV. You can store this mixture in your room. It will not go bad. The reason we are storing that big jar in the fridge is because it's such a large quantity we do not want to risk it going bad.

Use this toner with a cotton pad, once at night.

The ACV has absorbed all the properties of the orange and lemon peels. So, along with keeping our pores clean, the ACV now has other added benefits of brightening the skin.

Please, use a little if you've sensitive skin. Always try anything with caution and on a small area if you've sensitive skin. Also, I do not know how this works for darker skin tones. But, for light to medium skin tones this toner will work perfectly.

I love the brightening qualities of orange and lemon and I will also be making some lemon/orange peels powder to use in face masks.

I hope you do try this. Lemons and oranges are wonderful for our skin. Nature has the answer to all our problems.
